General Dentistry
Although Our Dentist in Ventura CA offers an array of cosmetic and restorative dentistry procedures, we believe that regular examinations and preventive care are the best ways to maintain a beautiful smile. Dr. Eskandar and his friendly staff provide all aspects of general dentistry, including endodontics and periodontics, to their patients from Oxnard, Ventura, and beyond.

Periodontics
Even if you take good care of your teeth, there is a chance that you may be ignoring the health of your gums. Disease of the gums can lead to pain, bleeding, and even tooth loss. In its early stages, periodontal disease is called gingivitis and is caused by the bacteria contained in plaque. Excessive buildup of this bacteria affects the soft tissue of the mouth and causes bleeding, red, tender gums. Our staff is always careful to include periodontics when they examine each patient at our office, serving Ventura and Oxnard. When caught in its early stages, gingivitis is easily treatable and reversible. If gingivitis is left untreated, the condition becomes periodontal disease; it can still be treated, but permanent gum and bone damage may have already occurred. In this case, periodontics is combined with cosmetic or restorative dentistry to repair the damage. Good periodontal health starts with the patient.
- Floss and thoroughly brush your teeth every day
- Do not smoke; if you do smoke, quit
- Eat a healthy diet and avoid sugary snacks
- Examine your mouth for early signs of gum disease (bleeding, tenderness)
- Visit your dentist at least twice a year for a thorough cleaning and oral periodontics examination

Preventive Care
Even though brushing and flossing are the best things you can do at home to take care of your teeth, it is just as important to have your teeth and gums regularly examined by a dentist with expertise in decay detection and periodontics. Our practice in Ventura, conveniently located near Oxnard and the surrounding communities, is a comfortable and reassuring environment. During your examination, our staff will help you to keep your teeth and gums disease-free and strong.

Night Guards/Bite Appliances
If you grind or clench your teeth excessively, strain on your teeth and jaw joints can cause pain in the ear, neck, and head, along with several other symptoms including:
- Sore muscles in the face
- Throat pain
- Difficulty chewing
- Dizziness
- Poor bite alignment
Many people who clench and grind their teeth do so while asleep. Dr. Eskandar can provide such patients with bite appliances and night guards that are specifically designed to stop the clenching and relieve the pressure on the jaw. If you have been experiencing unexplained headaches or jaw pain, you may be clenching your teeth at night. Contact The Smile Shapers to schedule a consultation with Dr. Levesque today.

Extractions
We make every effort to save a tooth that is damaged or injured; however, in some extreme cases where periodontics, restorative dentistry, and other methods cannot save the tooth, an extraction at our Ventura practice may be required. Before an extraction procedure, Dr. Eskandar will be sure to answer all your questions and discuss the restorative options, such as dental implants or dentures.

Endodontics (Root Canal)
Inside the core of each tooth is a small mass of material called dental pulp. This substance supplies the tooth with nourishment and nerve endings. If the tooth becomes damaged, dental pulp may become seriously infected; as a result, the nerves in the area die and endanger the health of the tooth.
A root canal is an endodontic procedure designed to save the tooth and avoid further restorative work. Today's root canal techniques are efficient and nearly painless; our staff will help to put you at ease by answering your questions and discussing anesthesia options.
During your next office visit, we will X-ray the area to ensure that all affected pulp has been removed and then complete the filling and sealing process. This simple procedure has allowed countless of Dr. Eskandar's patients to retain their natural teeth and alleviate the pain associated with infected dental pulp.
If you have pain in any part of your mouth, please do not hesitate to come see us. By delaying treatment, the problem and the pain will only worsen and require lengthier treatment. Dr. Eskandar can help you to smile again through general dentistry techniques that include endodontics and periodontics. Ventura, Oxnard, and Santa Paula area residents can contact The Smile Shapers for an informative consultation with Dr. Eskandar and his friendly staff.
